Objective

• To ensure water security in the city in view of electricity power crises;
• To improve service delivery and spending on (O&M) of the water supply and sewerage systems

Issues

Major Revenue of WASA is spent on electricity bills and POL for generators. Moreover, the water security for the city is required to be ensured in wake of frequent power outages.

Present Status

Feasibility study is in progress by consultants M/s ECSP and 8.2 Germany JV expected to be completed by 31-11-2015. MOU signed with five (5) Firms

Another MOU was signed with a local company, M/S Chanab Power (Pvt.) LTD on 10-11-2015 for solar project for WASA Faisalabad.

Additional steps for solar power

• Feasibility study by ECSP/8.2 Ingenieur Partners, Germany is already in progress through financing by Government of the Punjab (completion by 30.11.15);
• The investor shall get first right of refusal in bidding process for profit sharing;
• Partnership modalities with WASA and relevant registrations of the SPV with SECP;
• Procedural formalities including generation license from NEPRA;
• Contract with Central Power Purchase Agency (CPPA)/ FESCO for sale of produced electricity;
• Project Implementation.
